Random Photos from Maui

Here's a bunch of shots that were cool, but didn't necessarily fit into any of the other galleries.

Little Beach: For the first time on this trip we went over to the Sunday Night drum circle on "little beach" in Makena. It was an incredibly far out experience. The beach turns from it's usual alternative clothing optional experience into a mini-burning man or woodstock experience. Drummers and musicians congregate in the center of the beach under a really cool old tree and pound out a rhythm while people dance at the water's edge with hula hoops, juggle fire, pay homage to the setting sun, and generally chill out. I got a pretty cool (and clean) video as darkness fell that gives you a feel for the experience. All you can see is the sky and the sea and the dark shapes of hundreds of people gathered on the beach around the drummers who are setting the rhythm for the evening. Since it's almost 100MB I recommend right clicking here and selecting "save target as" to get it copied to your local machine where it will run better.

The Lower Knoll

Here's a shot of the lower knoll at the Seawatch restaurant where we got married

Big Beach

This is a shot of Big Beach in Makena. I think it's the most beautiful beach on the island. I'm standing on the rocky outcrop that seperates Big Beach from Little Beach which is behind me

Love Birds

I thought these two quail were a great symbol of me and Christi. Snuggled up together and enjoying the Maui Sun

Out for a Drive

My Dad and brother Gabe in the front seat, and my Mom in the back as we head across the island to check out a cool surfing beach

Charlies!

Gabe, Dad, Mom, Sibyl, Christi, and George as we wait for our yummy food at the breakfast place where Willie Nelson hangs out

Redhead

The color on this little guy was incredible!

Cattle Egret

You can see these guys all over the island. They often follow yard workers around as they stir up the insects and geckos that the egrets are hunting for

Yum!

I prefer to think that this egret is hugging the gecko, but it could just be that he got sick of him trying to sell him car insurance

Outrigger

A big outrigger canoe heading out on Wailea beach

Snorkeling with Dad

Dad getting ready to head out on our first snorkeling trip

Stealing Wishes

I saw this woman at the shops at wailea, brazenly walking around the fountain and stealing coins

Me and Dad

A great shot of me and dad as we head out to snorkel

Dumbest Tattoos

These have to be the dumbest tattoos I've ever seen

At Sarrentos

Tom, Ciny, and Christi as we wait for our table at Sarrentos

Aquaman!

Chris as we head out to snorkel

True Love

Our wedding date in the sand

Flowers

These flowers were growing on a tree at the Seawatch and were just like the ones on our wedding cake

Gecko

At night you could see the little geckos crawling across the ceiling in outdoor restaurants

George & Sibyl

Christi's mom and dad hanging out with us at the poolside bar

Cute Bird

I don't know what kind, but he looked hungry

Paradise in the Eyes of Beauty

A fun shot of the tropical scene reflected in Christi's glasses

Kayaking

We rented a kayak and paddled out by the whales, and also saw turtles and manta rays

Flower

The flowers were stunning!

Wailea Beach

The beach was beautiful in the mornings when Christi would do a run and I'd walk along the path

The Tree

This tree is on the point at the end of Wailea beach and it always symbolizes Maui for me

Makena

The late afternoon sands on big beach at Makena as we headed over to little beach for the drum circle

Fire Dancer

She was twirling a fiery ball at the end of a rope

Another Fire Dancer

The blurring obscures the lack of clothing and the fiery trail is kind of far out

Anything Burns

At a loss for things to danc around with, this guy apparently realized he wouldn't be needing his umbrella

The Experience

A cool view of the mass of humanity hanging out on little beach

Beauty

My beauty standing on the stairs at the Wailea Marriott

Red Flower

Another cool flower

Whale Watching

It's incredible how pretty much any time of the day you can look out at the ocean and see whales
